“ Robert Mayer reworked a lot of superhero themes for an adult audience long before anybody else and the result is a hilariously funny novel. The constant 70's pop culture references get annoying sometimes and date the material but this book deals with a retired superhero coming back into action when a trap is laid for him by one of his villians wanting him out of the way. The themes inverse a lot of the normal adolescent power struggles from the comics to deal with an adult man choosing between responsibilty, family and his former glory. As broad as the comedy gets at times the ending is suprisingly poignat.
One doesn't have to have a wide knowledge of comic book characters to appreciate it. Most of the Superman elements will be familar to most anybody and the novel never delves into obscure superhero mythology.”
“This may have been the 1st of it's kind, the comicbook based novel. Full of insider humor. You have to be a comicbook reader to catch most of this satirical
work.”
“Well-written and often hilarious - a really great read that more people should know about!”
